La storia inizia in Siria, dove un plotone di Navy Seals riceve una soffiata riguardo al possibile nascondiglio di un terrorista. Il capitano James Reece (interpretato da Chris Pratt) guida i suoi uomini nell’operazione, che però si rivela essere un’imboscata e il plotone viene quasi completamente sterminato. Quando Reece torna a casa, ha un colloquio con i suoi superiori, da cui però emerge un notevole contrasto tra la versione ufficiale dell’operazione e quella che Reece ricorda…
